1.TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN It is with great pleasure that I write about Mr. Harry. I have known him since he started his career in January, 1992. Actually, I have known him from the university days. We have graduated the same university. We had worked in the same team ever since then. Thus I know about him much better than anyone else. As his technical leader on a short-period project from July 1997 to March 1998, I have seen what he has done for his team and the company. In a word, his performance in the field of database management is outstanding. The certificate he earned last April is the proof that he has the in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills to meet the highest industry standards. I have observed that he has strong aspirations for achievement, with outstanding capabilities and intelligence. His mind is analytical and he is able to handle difficult tasks with enormous confidence and determinations. At every opportunity, he seeks to maximize his potential. Based on the solid understanding on Oracle RDBMS, he displayed his technical leadership in the Suggestions System Development project in 1997 by having the rest developers keep up with the-state-of-the-art technology. I have found him to be reliable, of great integrity and willing to accept responsibility. Harry is a very good communicator, as particularly demonstrated by his accompanying his then boss to the U.S. on a business trip in 1996, and works well in a team. He is articulate, well-spoken and readily conveys his thoughts and ideas in a concise and pleasant manner. I am confident that he will excel in the company he has chosen. 2.TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I have great pleasure in taking this opportunity to tell about Mr. Harry Kwon. I have known Harry for six and half years, from 1992 up to date, the entire period of his career with ABC, Inc. for which he is still working. And He had been under direct control of me from 1995 to 1997, when I finally transferred to an another department. We had worked together on a couple of software development projects where I usually was the project leader and he was a DBA and programmer. Along with the projects, he showed his talents in software development and team work. He successfully led the project team as a technical leader and senior programmer. He made sure that he understood the essence of the projects and the key techniques. I also found out that he was highly motivated and hard working. Everyone who knows him is very impressed with his ability, work ethic, and the way he handled himself under some difficult situations. He is willing and able to take initiatives and bring synergy to work place. It was not surprising that during the Human Resources Management System project in 1996 through 1997 he was awarded for his great contribution to the company. In addition, the system is considered one of the best systems the company have had. Meanwhile, Kwon is a very bright and intelligent man with a warm and engaging personality. He is very well-liked by his co-workers and from my observations. I have no doubt that he will have a very successful career ahead. In summary, Harry Kwon is a very competent and thoroughly professional person. I have no hesitation in giving my very high recommendation for any position that he may care to apply for. If you have any question, Contact me anytime by e-mail at yyyy@xxx.com. 3.TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I am happy to write a reference letter for Mr. Harry Kwon. I had been his manager when he started his career with ABC corp. Actually I recruited him myself on January, 1992. His initial job title was SED (Systems Engineer Development) I. The ‘Development’ means that persons like Mr. Kwon without any prior knowledge on IT(Information Technology) need to be ‘developed’ to be a SE. one of the reasons I recruited him was that I found a potential of a good IT professional on him. For the next one year, he got OJT(On-Job Training) from senior programmers of the team, got himself educated with CBI(Computer-based Instruction) program, and self studied. Then, I was sure, he learned the fundamentals on business and computer technology. on March, 1993, one year since, he took and passed 3rd of 24 trainees the notorious training course for full 10 weeks. The course was obtained from XYZ corp. of U.S. for the purpose of getting the new employees educated basic technical skills on COBOL, assembler, file system, coding standards, how to overcome the workload and stress caused from it, and so on. Now he was SE Application. It amounts to a junior programmer. He was ready to work for the company. From June through September the same year, he had been involved to work on the human resources system for xxx, Inc. with more experienced programmers. It may have been his first project. The system was built with COBOL on IMS DB/DC, and still runs on production. He showed the willingness to accept the work load imposed on him. Until January next year since then, he was responsible for the maintenance on the system. For the next 10 months, he had worked in an another human resources system development project for yyy, Inc. It was with COBOL, DB2 as the database. The noteworthy thing with this project, his project team tried ADW(Application Development Workbench), a CASE(Computer-Aided Systems Engineering) tool that helps the analysis work and generate the codes automatically by managing all the resources within its encyclopedia. It was almost initial stage the CASE tool was applied on a real project in Korea then. on March, 1995, the company was running short of the qualified instructors to train the over-recruited SEs. He was selected to be one of the supporting instructors. For the next seven months, he successfully carried his temporary duty as a instructor for his juniors. He told me once that the best things he had earned during the time were the presentation skills in front of the students and the communication skills. Mr. Kwon got back on September. With the prior experience on the CASE technology, he was assigned to work on a new CASE tool, Composer of TI(Texas Instrument), test. He received 5-week course on Composer from two instructors from Australia then. Now he became a senior programmer, a Systems Analyst, on January 1996. He started the human resource and payroll system project for the ABC corp. with 13 other programmers and a project manager. He played his role as the technical leader in the project. He carefully analyzed user’s requirements and the current system and modeled them into logical products, and stored them within composer encyclopedia. The system was built with Oracle, powerbuilder, and Oracle web server stuff, and runs on Intranet. He led the project team technically. He designed the database, Oracle, for the system. Because he had a couple of years of programming experience on the RDBMS like DB2, it seemed he had little difficulty with Oracle, a RDBMS. He created database, tablespaces, users, tables, views, indexes and the like, and had kept them under his control during the project. Few oracle objects may have avoided his surveillance. He also coded client programs with 4GL tool powerbuilder of Powersoft, ltd, and server programs with PL/SQL of oracle corporation. The project lasted almost a year and half. It probably much help him know what the client/server system is all about and how Oracle works. The project members were awarded for the project. The system is considered as one of the best systems the company has had. The next system was also based on Intranet. It was Suggestion management system for the company. The employees suggest every day to make things better. The company wanted the suggestions systemically managed and well-organized. He analyzed and designed database ,and the screens. His knowledge on Oracle had made improvements on. At last., on April this year he passed the OCP(Oracle Certified Professional) test to be an OCP. Moreover, the scores he got in four subject areas were remarkable. I was told he came to have some confidence on Oracle from the OCP courses. His last project was for zzz,Inc. According to the original plan, it would end by 2004 or 2005. It was such big and huge project. The first phase of the project was to conduct the analysis by September this year. Nearly 100 people from three different companies were involved. The analysis works were carried out helped by tools such as ERWIN, BPWIN, Composer, all CASE tools. His experience and expertise on CASE technology were inevitable. I assert that he was one of the men I hope to work with over again. He was proactive, every time he met challenges he tried to overcome them with great confidence and showed no hesitation to tackle them. one time he and I went to Dallas, TX for a week on a business trip in 1996. I asked him to accompany me, because he was not only excellent at English and I thought he had a good communication ability that is essential for the trip. The trip was successful and he gave me much better impression. I am sure he is of no difference wherever he goes. Please feel free to ask me if you require any further information. 4.REFERENCE LETTER TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I have great pleasure in taking this opportunity to tell about Mr. Harry Kwon. I have known him for more than six and half years, from 1992 up to date, the entire period of his career with ABC Corp. And He had been under direct control of me in a couple of projects from 1995 to 1997, when I finally transferred to an another department. I was his first senior programmer who was responsible for OJT. Because he had little experience with computers, I thought it would be quite tough to make him a competent programmer. I used to teach him what programs are, how they are executed and what the things around them are. Then I gave him plenty of program samples and have him look into them thoroughly. He showed some talents. His technical skills grew as time went by. For his first one year, he may have felt the job he would work on is not easy one. He and I had worked on abc, Inc, which is today’s ABC Corp.. We supported maintenance on human resources and payroll system. The system was based on COBOL, IMS DB/DC and IBM mainframe. At that time it was the only platform we could choose. The next year he took the aaa training course that is known as the best training program in Korea for COBOL programmers to take. I am going to tell a little more about the traing course. The course was initially developed by xyz corp, United States of America, the business partner of ABC Corp. The curriculum included COBOL on IBM mainframe, JCL, Assembly language, CICS, testing technique, time and stress management, and the most important thing, how to work together with colleagues. From this course the employees who had nothing to do with programming came to learn about the programming and the IT(Information Technology). IT means more than just programming. As with most SI(Systems Integration) companies, the employees is required to have not only technical knowledge like programming skills, but also business knowledge and English ability because most of the manuals on IT including the textbooks of the course are written in English and the employees would have possible opportunities to work with xyz corp. His records on the course were enough good to be selected a temporary instructor later. once he passed the course, he was considered to work as a real programmer. Regardless of our wills, we had worked together for a long time ever since then. The first project we had worked on was for xxx, Inc. whose business is to construct apartment, building and the stuff. The system was human resource system. They had had their own human resource system. However, they felt it was too old and obsolete to meet their needs. Though it’s not true any more, our team was best with human resource and payroll system in the industry at that time. His next project was with other senior programmers. yyy, Inc. was the client. This time was human resource system, too. As I remember, the system was based on IBM mainframe, DB2 as the database, and COBOL and embedded SQL as the programming languages. They applied CASE technology on the project. ADW(Advanced Development Workbench), the CASE tool, was executed on OS2 of IBM. To install the tool and test on OS2 is a tedious work. He and the other two programmers did good job under the difficult situations. Although the CASE work was considered a failure, their efforts remained valuable assets. In spring 1995, he volunteered to be a temporary instructor for the employees. He gave a lecture to newcomers on what he had been given on the aaa course for the next seven months. He became a systems analyst in 1996. We worked together on human resource and payroll system for ABC Corp. in client/server platform. It started on April, 1996, and ended on August, 1997. There was some danger because it was quite big one and the first client/server project we had ever had. I was the project manager. Mr. Kwon was the technical leader, DBA and a senior programmer. I assigned the job because he had much enough experience and expertise on human resource and payroll system and the relational database. He and I carried the analysis work. He had the models generated in the analysis and design phase under his control. He was responsible for migration of the data from IBM mainframe to Unix system. It required him a long time and many efforts. His solid understanding on data modeling had kept the system stabilized and ensured best performance along with the project period. The skills in connection with the project were Oracle database, powerbuilder 5.0, java script, html and the like. The system had two versions. one is powerbuilder one for users in department of HR, and the other one is Intranet system for the over 3500 employees. He took the part of powerbuilder system, was responsible for the entire data and SQL tuning for the maximum performance. When the system was complete, we were praised for the efforts we had put in and were awarded for the contribution. The project gave me a lot of things. The pride that I could do is one of them. I guess it was the same with him. In the middle of the project, he took a technical course for about a month where he got trained the cutting-edge client/server technologies such as middle-ware programming techniques, object-oriented concepts and sort of things. The course was developed by the company to make senior programmers remain in state-of-the-art arena. After a few weeks of rest, he and I were involved in a new project. It was suggestion management system. It was based on the same platform as human resource and payroll system. The only difference was the system was made up only with Intranet programs. I was the project leader and Mr. Kwon was the technical leader until I was transferred to an another department. Without me, he was the project leader though it was small project. With the help of the system, the company could manage the suggestions of employees efficiently. Mr. Kwon is a very bright and intelligent man with a warm and engaging personality. He is very well-liked by his co-workers and from my observations. I have no doubt that he will have a very successful career ahead. In summary, Harry Kwon is a very competent and thoroughly professional person. I have no hesitation in giving my very high recommendation for any position that he may care to apply for.
